The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) collaborates across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through Federal Interagency Workgroups (FIWGs) and Federal Advisory Committees (FACAs) to advance HHS’s mission of enhancing the health and well-being of all Americans. Through these collaborative efforts, OMH helps address pressing public health challenges, improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations, and reduce health disparities.
FIWGs and FACAs bring together subject matter experts from HHS Operating and Staff Divisions and other Federal partners to coordinate activities, share knowledge, identify emerging issues, and promote evidence-informed approaches to improve health outcomes.
OMH serves in both leadership and participant roles across these groups contributing its expertise to Department-wide initiatives. In every collaboration, OMH brings a focus on improving the health of racial and ethnic minority populations and advancing efforts to eliminate health disparities.
The groups below include FIWGs led by OMH, as well as FIWGs and FACAs in which OMH participates to support coordination, collaboration, and shared HHS priorities.
OMH-Led Federal Interagency Workgroup
Sickle Cell Disease Federal Interagency Working Group
The HHS Office of Minority Health leads the Sickle Cell Disease Federal Interagency Working Group, a forum for federal agencies engaged or interested in sickle cell disease (SCD) initiatives. Through this forum, agencies share information and resources, collaborate, and discuss successes and challenges, with the goal of improving health outcomes of individuals with SCD. The SCD FIWG meets up to four times each year, with flexibility for additional meetings, as needed.
